I witnessed anarchy on the beach this afternoon.

I saw about a dozen people playing some sort of ball game. It resembled baseball, but the players clearly made up some of the rules and agreed to them on their own. The most striking thing about the game was the total lack of a central authority policing it. No referee. No league officials. No umpire.

It was just a group of people cooperating in order to have a good time.

When disputes broke out, and a few did, the players managed to work it out together. After a short pause and discussion, they resolved the issue and the game went on.

They seemed to have a good time.

There was no chaos.

It clearly wasn’t impossible.

A lesson, perhaps?
