In this episode of Thoughts from Maharrey Head, I share my experience dealing with police opposition to an Alaska bill that would limit unwarranted bulk surveillance, and I explain why I think the law enforcement lobby consistently attacks these bills.

    I’ve often spoke concerns over this with my friends. I’ve come to believe that the paramilitary swing in local police agencies came along with the large influx of military personnel retiring to the public sector.

      I think that’s definitely part of it. Combine that with militarization of equipment and tactics, you get cops that think their soldiers.

    I’ve also noticed, that since discussions like this have been becoming more popular, the feds have been developing and arming enforcement branches in more mundane agencies like the EPA, FDA, and forty-two others, according to a Washington Times article.
