“10 Minutes Closer to Freedom”

I this episode of Thoughts from Maharrey Head, I talk about how the federal government bears much of the responsibility for the explosion in police violence in America.

In the wake of the most recent officer involved shootings a few weeks ago, some progressives have called for the federal government to exercise more control over local police. President Obama floated this idea in a speech, and Al Sharpton issued an outright called for the Department of Justice to “take over policing in this country.”

Centralizing power is a knee-jerk progressive response to every problem, but it is as dangerous as it is misguided. In this episode of Thoughts from Maharrey Head, I explain how increasing federal control over state and local police actually drives ever-increasing aggressive policing in America. This manifests itself most clearly in the so-called “War on Drugs,” and to a lesser degree in the “War on Terror.”

I also focus in on the bigger picture. The bottom line is the two narratives surrounding police violence activists and the media want to funnel us all into misses the real point – the violence inherent in the system. I address that point head-on.
